The built-in for the entertainment center in this living room was sitting above a tall step.  The step continues to the right in front of the fireplace.  We removed the step in front of the entertainment center, leaving it in front of the fireplace, and installed a new built-in for storage,  running the entire height of the room.

 

This built-in has deeper shelving below for components, video game systems, and general storage, all hidden behind doors.

We installed tile on the side of the step where we cut it back from in front of the entertainment center, and installed new tiles in a random pattern on the floor in front of the entertainment center, to match the existing tile.
