We constructed a new built-in for their living area that would provide both shelf space and room for their television. You can see here and in pictures below that this connects to the breakfast area, which we also remodeled.

We installed the ledge to the right, with the smaller tile steps, in place of the one long step that had existed. On the other side is the beautiful new breakfast table below, with additional storage beneath the bench seats.
