The clients in this condo wanted to open up their pantry and make it larger.  Opening the walls exposes part of the slab that does not have the slate tile on it, so in order to do the pantry, we had to re-tile the floor.  We pulled up the slate and installed larger travertine tiles.  The straight lay helps the narrow room feel larger than it does when the flooring is on a diagonal.

The natural travertine brings a much brighter, lighter feel to the room than the slate did.  The custom faux treatment on the walls, which we applied several years ago, matches the look of the travertine perfectly.

 

Below, you can see how the old tile and the new tile look with the existing wood floor in the living room.  You also see the seamless transition of the new tile into the enlarged pantry.
